Shoshimin: A New Mystery Anime from the Author of Hyouka Coming in July 2024

Shoshimin A new TV anime series based on the mystery novel series by Honobu Yonezawa, the author of Hyouka, is set to premiere in July 2024. The anime, titled Shoshimin: How to become Ordinary, will adapt the first two volumes of the Shoushimin Series, which follow the adventures of Jogoro Kobato and Yuki Osanai, two high school students who aspire to be ordinary citizens but get involved in various mysteries.

The official website for the anime revealed the main cast, staff, teaser visual, and teaser promo on Friday. Shuuichirou Umeda and Hina Youmiya will voice the main characters, Kobato and Osanai, respectively. Mamoru Kanbe, the director of The Promised Neverland and Everything Becomes F, will helm the project at Lapin Track, the studio behind Sarazanmai and Undead Girl Murder Farce. Toshiya Oono, the scriptwriter of Land of the Lustrous and Shadows House, will handle the series composition, while Atsushi Saitou, the character designer of Love Live! Superstar!! and Black Fox, will design the characters. Takahiro Obata, the composer of The Promised Neverland and Cinderella Nine, will provide the music.

The Shoushimin Series novel series began in 2004, three years after Yonezawa started the Koten-bu Series, which was adapted into the popular Hyouka anime in 2012. The novel series has four volumes published so far, with the fifth volume scheduled for a late April 2024 release. The novel series has a cumulative 750,000 copies in print. The first and second volumes were also adapted into manga by different artists in GFantasy magazine.

The anime will air on the NUMAnimation programming block on TV Asahi and its 24 affiliate stations and BS Asahi in July 2024. The official website and Twitter account for the anime will provide more updates and information in the future.
